From 1963 the circuit held the Rome GP, and in 1967 a new loop was added through a newly blasted cutting. Further refurbishment was undergone in 1971.
Work is due to start in August 2004 on a 1 km extension to the track, bringing the track length up to 2.6 miles. This extension is shown in the map below.
