Playas de Tijuana



Used in the 1960s, Playas de Tijuana had two layouts - one a D-shaped oval, the other on the layout shown above (used in 1968). The wide esplanade used by the sea was washed away by a storm in the late 1970s/early 1980s.

During one race in the rain, a formula car missed the north turn, hit the curb and vaulted the two-strand barbed wire fence on the border. Several spectators and a couple of flagmen slogged through the mud, righted the car and dragged it back into Mexico. Bet the US Border Patrol had fun sorting those tracks out......
