South Dakota Circuit

The South Dakota Circuit, located some 27 miles south of Georgetown at Timehri, is built around the runways of the old WW2 airbase at Atkinson Field. It has been used since the 1960s.

On the 4th November 2002, two children (Ashton and Dyna DeSouza) were killed at the circuit during an event to commemorate Gavin Narine, a national champion who had been shot dead the previous September. Briton Dave Brodie's Ford Sierra Cosworth had a mechanical failure three laps into the race, and speared through a chain link fence during heavy rain and into a minibus around which people were standing. Brodie was unhurt.
