Typical of his designs, it features a long straight leading into a sharp corner. In 1991 the circuit was extended from its previous 2.1154 miles with the addition of Portago. The track is located 18 miles north of Madrid.
In December 2003, plans were announced to sell Jarama and demolish it in order to fund a new circuit next to Madrid's Barajas airport.
