The original Tilke design, it featured six separate track configurations.

Planned in 2001 and designed by the engineering group Tilke, Bahrain Racing Circuit opened for the 1st Bahrain Grand Prix on the 2nd April 2004, and was 5.412 km long. In 2010 an extended 6.299 km variant was opened for the Grand Prix - it had been constructed in 2006 and used for the 24 Hours of Bahrain race.
