The 1.057 mile track first opened to racing on 20th July 1997. It is sited on the old rallycross track of Ty Croes, which itself was an old army camp site. The first lap record was set by Mike Bennett in a FF1600 at 47.35s, at 80.36mph.

At the end of 2003, the track secured £16 million of regional funding to help extend the track to 2 miles, and work started on the new layout in the latter half of 2006 - the new circuit layouts are shown in the second set of maps above. Four new layouts were built:
