Track History

Created for the Australian Grand Prix in 1985, this city circuit was unusual in having fast corners and a 1km long straight, as well as run-off areas. It was made up of uniformly surfaced public roads (bordered by only a few buildings) and a specially constructed 1km loop in the Victoria Park and racecourse grounds. When the Grand Prix moved to Albert Park, the track was disused until revived in a 3.22 km form in 1999 for the V8 Supercar series (see below). The original circuit was used in the 31st December 1999 for a 6 hour ALMS race.
